SDMRC - Meetings & Seminars

SDMRC Meeting Calendar

The San Diego Muscle Research Center supports and promotes the following meetings:

SDMRC meetings

SDMRC supported external meetings

We will also add seminars and conferences on our calendar that may be of interest to SDMRC scientists.

Basic Cardiology - Joint Lab Meetings

The weekly "Joint Lab Meetings" in the Department of Cardiology are intended for junior scientists (graduate students, postdocs and junior faculty) with an interest in cardiovascular research and muscle biology. Postdocs and junior faculty will have ~50 minutes to showcase their projects, while graduate and undergraduate students can have shorter ~25 minute talks to present their data.
The seminars are typically attended by faculty, postdocs and graduate students from the Division and other Departments (e.g. Bioengineering), and will allow presenters to get feedback from peers and senior faculty.

The seminars have a hybrid approach that enables participants to join either in person or via Zoom.
  • Dates and Time: Starting May 16, 2022, every Monday at 9am (see online calendar for exceptions)
  • Place: UCSD School of Medicine campus, BRF2 building, meeting room 2A03
  • Online via Zoom: https://ucsd.zoom.us/j/95577249000
    Meeting ID: 955 7724 9000

  • Please contact Dr. Yoshitake Cho or Dr. Stephan Lange for further details.
The online calendar also shows past and upcoming "Joint Lab Meetings".

CSC Seminar Series

The Cardiovascular Science Conference (CSC) seminar series is organized by faculty of the Department of Cardiology at UC San Diego. The seminar series features local, national and international speakers, who present their latest data every Friday at 11:30am (PDT) via Zoom.
Details can be found on the UC San Diego Cardiology website.
Contact Cindy Treich for more information.

Southern California RheumTalk Seminar Series

On Wednesdays from 12-1 pm, the Microenvironment in Arthritis Resource Center sponsors a seminar in collaboration with UC Los Angeles and Cedars Sinai that includes both internal and external speakers presenting on their recent findings and ground breaking developments in the fields of rheumatology and joint pathology.
Speakers come from a variety of backgrounds, including local academia, non-profit institutes, and biotech companies. Recipients of the MARC Pilot Project Grants are also invited to speak. The seminar is held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month via zoom webinar only and attendance is free. Further details, an online calendar and a Zoom link can be found here.

SDMRC Seminar Series

The goal of the SDMRC seminar series is to improve the communication among local scientists, and promote excitement about the research going on in the labs of the center investigators. This will include local speakers drawn from the San Diego area, as well as national/international speakers. This seminar series is typically held in Building 12 of the Sanford Burnham Medical Research institute. Two researchers will give updates on their research projects in 20 minute long presentations. Ample time for questions and discussions will allow for critical feedback on the research projects.
Dr. Alessandra Sacco is organizing the SDMRC seminar series.

The online calendar shows past and upcoming seminars.

SDMRC Keynote Speaker Seminars

The SDMRC Keynote Speakers Seminars occasionally invites nationally and internationally renown muscle researchers to San Diego to present their cutting edge research to the local research community. Past speakers include James Ervasti, Jan Fridén, Fabio Rossi, Eric Hoffman or Thomas Rando.
Past and upcoming SDMRC Keynote Seminars can be found in the online calendar.

SDMRC promoted external meetings

Alternative Muscle Club Meeting

The Alternative Muscle Club meeting is an annual one-day conference aimed at scientists early in their research careers. It provides an opportunity for young investigators in the academic, industry and medical sectors to present their work in a more relaxed environment. Its main goal is to build connections in the research community, and help learn about projects from other research laboratories and organizations.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we had to cancel the 2020 and 2021 AMC meeting.

Meeting Date: the next meeting date will be announced in late 2022

More information on the upcoming and past meetings and pictures can be found on the meeting homepage.
