Directions to the SDMRC Cores

Schematic map of the San Diego Area and five participating institutions

  1. The Salk Institute (SALK),
  2. The Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (SBMRI),
  3. San Diego State University (SDSU),
  4. The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) and
  5. the University of California Diego (UCSD).
All but SDSU are within 1 kilometer of each other, and SDSU is only a 20-minute drive away. All five institutions are interweaved in many studies. The cores proposed will be housed at UCSD (Administrative Core and Phenotyping Core), TSRI (Imaging Core) and Sanford-Burnham (High Throughput Cell Analysis Core).

Core center members are distributed across SALK, The SBMRI, TSRI, UCSD, and SDSU. Not shown are approximately 250 biotechnology companies that are located near UCSD and in the so-called “Golden Triangle” (area bordered by interstates 5 and 805, and highway 52). There are several existing programs for academic and industry scientists to exchange ideas and technologies. The San Diego scientific community is congenial and communicative and many members have joint appointments between institutions.
